Who in their right mind tried to build a business website on GeoCities 20 years ago? it was liberating to write your own page, and with the limited ability to use a few HTML tags in Geocities, it was easy to build a crazy website with blinking pictures and pink backgrounds.
We feel like that is what people are doing when they try to use a LIMITED platform like GoDaddy or Wix. When you build a website using those platforms, you are limited to doing certain things. You can’t grow into publishing a newsletter, you can’t grow into an eCommerce Store, and you’re stuck with a limited toolset and ridiculous monthly costs.
We believe that Wix has SOME things that are interesting, but we believe that using an improper solution can obviously lead to growing pains. We fully support using Wix or Squarespace to build a PROTOTYPE of the website you want, as long as it can be done in an hour or two, that seems like a worthy investment. But once you have chosen a template using Wix, it is impossible change to a different template. In my opinion, that is just ridiculous. The ability to move data our of Wix is limited to exporting Posts, and being able to move off of Wix also requires copying and pasting Pages needs to be done by hand, and can’t really be automated.
With Wix, you are limited to 20 pages and you can’t even save revisions to pages and posts. You can’t save a draft of a new post, and then ask your boss to approve your wording. We just don’t think that Wix is capable of serving the needs of most companies.
But we would love to help you look at Wix, Squarespace, or any other platform you are interested.
